Everything You Need to Know Before Booking Your Newborn Photography Session in our studio.

Welcoming a new baby is one of the most emotional and unforgettable experiences of your life—and those early days go by in a blur. That’s why newborn photography is so special: it helps you freeze time and hold onto those tiny details forever.

If you’re thinking about booking a newborn photographer, you might be wondering when to book, how it works, or what to expect. I’m here to make it simple.

Here’s everything you need to know before scheduling your session:

1. When Should I Book My Newborn Photography Session?

The best time to book your session is during your pregnancy, ideally in your second or early third trimester. This guarantees availability around your due date, and we can adjust the date once baby arrives.

Newborn sessions are usually done when your baby is 5 to 14 days old—that’s when they’re still super sleepy and love to curl up, making it easier to capture those sweet, peaceful poses.

2. What’s the Best Age for Newborn Photos?

While the first two weeks are ideal, I completely understand that every family is different. I also offer sessions for slightly older newborns—up to 6 weeks—where we focus more on natural, lifestyle-style images and sweet little expressions.

3. What Style of Photography Do You Offer?

At Cara Mia Photography, I specialise in natural newborn photography. That means no over-the-top props or stiff posing—just soft, timeless images that reflect your baby’s unique charm and your connection as a family.

You’ll find a gentle mix of:

  • Newborn portraits (close-ups of tiny details)

  • Parent and baby images

  • Sibling photos (if applicable)

  • Relaxed family portraits

Everything is baby-led, calm, and never rushed.

4. Where Does the Session Take Place?

You can choose between:

  • My cozy home studio in Warwickshire—perfectly set up for newborn sessions with beautiful natural light and everything we need close at hand.

  • In-home sessions—for a more personal, documentary-style experience, I’ll come to you. Great for families wanting to capture those early days in their own space.

5. What Should We Bring or Wear?

You don’t need to bring much! I provide a carefully selected collection of wraps, neutral baby outfits, and soft blankets.

For parents and siblings, I always recommend soft, neutral tones—think whites, greys, creams, or pastels. Simple clothing keeps the focus on your faces and the connection between you.

And don’t worry—I’ll send a prep guide ahead of time with everything you need to know.

6. How Long Does a Newborn Session Last?

Newborn sessions typically last 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives us plenty of time for feeding, settling, and snuggling. There’s no rush—we follow your baby’s lead the whole way.

7. When Will We See the Photos?

Around 2–3 weeks after your session, I’ll send you a private online gallery to view your images. From there, you can choose your favourites, order prints, or create a keepsake album.

8. How Do I Book My Session?

It’s easy! Just head to my [Contact Page], fill in a few details, and I’ll get back to you with availability and info.

Or if you prefer, email me directly at [your email address].
