Siblings and Newborn Photography: How to Include Big Brothers and Sisters in Your Warwickshire Photoshoot

Tips for heartwarming and natural sibling poses that capture your growing family’s special bond.

Welcoming a new baby into your family is a magical time — and it’s even more special when you get to capture those first tender moments between siblings. As a specialist in newborn photography in Warwick, I often get asked how we can beautifully (and patiently!) include older brothers and sisters in a newborn session.
Here are my top tips for creating natural, heart-melting sibling portraits that celebrate your growing family.

Prepare Big Brother or Sister Before the Session

The key to a smooth baby and family photoshoot near Warwick is preparation.
Before the session day, explain to your child what to expect. Let them know that they’ll be helping to create special pictures with their new sibling.
Use positive language like “You’re going to be such a great helper!” or “You’ll get to cuddle your new baby for some photos!” to make them feel involved and important.

Top Tip: Bringing a favourite toy or comfort item can also help younger siblings feel more relaxed in front of the camera.

Keep It Fun, Not Forced

Children are naturally lively and unpredictable, which is exactly why the best siblings and newborn photography moments are often the most unposed.
During my sessions in Warwickshire, I always allow plenty of time for kids to warm up, play, and interact naturally with their new baby brother or sister.

We’ll encourage simple actions like:

  • Gentle kisses on the baby’s forehead

  • Holding the baby’s hand

  • Laying down next to the baby on soft blankets

  • Whispering a "secret" to the baby

This approach keeps the session light-hearted and captures authentic, emotional images. They are never in my way, I let them check in on baby and sit with me while I take photos of baby so they are happy and relaxed.
