Celebrate the last milestone of their first year!

I have found it is one of those sessions where either you love them or hate them. Yep, IT’S THE CAKE SMASH!  Personally, there’s something spectacular about a baby interacting with food. It’s a new stage in their life and what a fantastic way to capture a first birthday, THE LAST MILESTONE OF THEIR FIRST YEAR!

I used to work for a studio where I could do 5-7 cake smashes a day! (It was crazy so I won’t be doing 5 a day).  Although I have never turned down a cake smash request, because I have been so baby focused for the first year (and then we had lockdowns) I never actually posted much about cake smashes or formally offered them on my website.

Well here we are in 2021, and it’s all about to change.  In fact, my first photoshoot back post lockdown 3 (for me as I had a lockdown in November) is a cake smash!  I have decided to create a simple and adaptable set so that we can create beautiful cake smash themes. My favourite is a simple Eucalypts theme. This is great for a neutral set and I think it could be a client favourite too.

Using just a white background makes this session so adaptable. If you have a birthday party theme, you incorporate this into your cake smash by taking down the eucalyptus and putting your own decorations up.  I am happy for you to do your own theme this way if you wish!

One decision I have changed, is that I will not provide the cake.  This is due to dietary needs of your child but I also feel that you having control of how the cake looks can make the experience more personal to your theme. I do however have recommendations.
  • Buttercream cakes  make it is easier for baby to get into than fondant icing.
  • It doesn’t have to be large or extravagant. I always think a simple, small cake is better so I can still see most of your little one.

It’s about your baby turning one after all, not the cake! I used to do them with chocolate cakes, but I now much prefer white cakes and I think they look much nicer with the eucalyptus set (though I couldn’t get one for the test shots, sorry!)

If your baby is turning one this year and this is something you would like, Let’s have a chat about your birthday plans!  Contact me via my cake smash page.
