WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY NEWBORN SESSION? No earlier than your 20 week scan and then we can pencil in a date based on your due date.
MY BABY HAS ALREADY BEEN BORN, CAN I STILL BOOK A SESSION? It is best to book in advance but of course sessions can open up last minute if someone else’s baby is over the due date or arrived early and took another slot. So please still get in touch for a session!
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST? Sessions can last anywhere from 2 - 4 hours This may be one of the first times your little family has got out so I always expect you to be 10-15 mins late. I don't want you to worry about being a bit late.
HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR THE SESSION? If baby is breastfed I advise Mums to avoid spicy/acidic/gassy food for 24 hours before the session. Also, try to keep baby awake and ready for a feed on arrival. Please dress baby in something easy to remove. The studio is warm as this helps to keep baby settled so dress in layers so you don't get too hot. DO WE NEED TO BRING ANYTHING? I have a lots of coloured wraps, some cute baby outfits and props which help create my style of imagery, but a teddy or special blanket is fine to bring with you! I recommend you don’t bring lots of outfits for baby to change in an out of. They don’t settle very well with this!
WHAT IS THE STUDIO LIKE. The studio is a cosy space. Get comfortable take your shoes off, relax with a hot drink or glass of water enjoy this experience. You can check out the baby books and look through photos, watch your baby in all of the adorable poses and props even Log into our WiFi network. You can see more of the studio on my newborn page!
WILL I GET TO CHOOSE THE COLOUR SCHEME? Defiantly have a think about your home and the colours you would like me to photograph. But I do ask this question in the booking form so I know what to get out in advance.
WHAT IF MY BABY MAKES A MESS? NO WORRIES! I am used to it after 7 years. Everything will go in the wash or can be cleaned easily!
WHAT IF MY BABY CRIES OR DOESN'T SETTLE? There are times baby has a cry. It is natural and I am perfectly fine to work at their pace. We stop for feeds, changes and settling, it doesn’t often last the entire session and if it does we can reschedule your session. We will be able to create beautiful images - awake or asleep.
WILL YOU BE HANDLING MY BABY? Absolutely. I will ask that you undress them down to the nappy and place them on the bean bag or pass them to me and go from there. This gives me time to get to know your baby and them to know me. I am even happy to give them a bottle feed if you are! I will hand them back for cuddles and feeds when they need mama though. What about TWINS? I am happy to work with twins! We will book a normal session, but If we need more time I am happy to arrange a second appointment. We need a second short session more often than single babies. 4hours is already quite a lot for babies (and mums) so coming back fresh to a second session is best.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY TRAINING WITH NEWBORNS? I have a degree in photography and 7 years of experience in posed newborn photography, which is my specialism. I trained many years ago with UK award winning photographer Ellie Cassidy, and I keep up to date with online training from Kelly Brown. I also have experience in this time with older babies, family photography and weddings. ARE YOUR NEWBORN SESSIONS SAFE? Your baby's safety is my number one priority. There is no rush and if baby isn’t happy with a particular pose we come out of this and relax as needed. I get to know your baby throughout the session and keep an eye on their circulation and will never leave a baby in a pose such as ‘frog pose’ unsupported. I try to capture most of the images in more natural looking poses though.
CAN MY OTHER CHILDREN BE INCLUDED IN THE PHOTOS? ABSOLUTELY! I really like to capture you as a family and the siblings together!
WHAT DO WE WEAR? I find it works best to keep things neutral; black, grey with navy/light blue or pale pink with white are all great choices. Choose outfits that you feel happy in but that won’t date your photos. I recommend avoiding patterns and logos to keep the images timeless. Be comfortable and be you! I wouldn’t wear anything too formal unless that’s the look and style you are going for.
CAN I TAKE MY OWN PHOTOS? I am happy with wide shots or ‘behind the scenes photos’ of me photographing your baby during your session, however these shouldn't be close ups of just the baby in a set up as these are the images you have invested in me to take and a photo you take with a phone will not have the colour or the quality and will not do them justice! I do recommend that you just relax, enjoy your cup of tea and the soft music. Switch off your phone and be present in the moment!
DO I HAVE TO CHOOSE A PACKAGE BEFORE I BOOK? You don't need to choose any package when you book your session. You can decide this when you receive your online gallery which will be live for one week for you to choose images. (After this you can arrange an in person viewing if you wish) Payment will be required in full when ordering. Payment can be made via payment link or BACS,
DO YOU SHARE IMAGES ON SOCIAL MEDIA? I will ask you in advance of sharing to social media. If you would prefer your child's images not to be used in this way that's fine , please just let me know.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BEFORE WE CAN SEE THE PHOTOS? I send out the images as fast as possible, usually within two - three days of your session. You can then choose the images you’d like to order via your password protected online viewing gallery.
DO YOU EDIT OUR IMAGES? The gallery is simply a preview with only light and colour edits. Your final edits such as skin and backgrounds will be done after you choose your package. If baby is a bit flaky or has any marks such as scratches or possibly from delivery, these can be delicately removed with the newborn editing process BUT. Anything unique to them, such as a birthmark will be left as they are.
